5 Tips to Help Boost Your Immune System When You Travel

Boost your immune system with these simple tips

You might not realize it, but your immune system is the little workhorse of the body, especially during cold and flu season. Even with coronavirus stories continuing to pop up in the news and your social media feeds, you don’t necessarily have to cancel your travel plans to stay healthy. Here are a few tips that will help support your immune system that are simple and won’t cramp your vacation style.

1. Hot Lemon Water for Immune System

This simple drink has become increasingly popular in recent times with the rise of the wellness movement. According to Ayurvedic medicine, hot lemon water helps to cleanse the lymphatic system (your immunity organs), which improves your body’s capacity to fight off illness. It also helps to hydrate the body. To make the drink, just add a few slices of fresh, clean lemon to a mug of hot water. Add a little honey for taste and an extra little healthy punch.

2. Stay Hydrated

Speaking of water: staying hydrated is another key factor in keeping your immune system running at peak performance. Quite simply, the water washes your system. The human body is about 60% water, when you become dehydrated it gets difficult for your systems to function. Think of goldfishes in a bowl: they’re all swimming around, getting all over the bowl. Then some water gets taken away and they can’t get to everything now, it’s harder for them to move because they’re all closer together, and they can’t function in their tank like they used to.

So grab your water bottle before you head out! And maybe through in a few slices of that lemon you used this morning for your Hot Lemon Water.

3. Herbal Supplements

First off, always talk to your doctor before you begin taking any new supplements. We’re not giving any medical advice here. That being said, there is research that shows specific herbal supplements, such as echinacea and olive leaf can help boost your immunity against cold and flu! These supplements are also easy to get, most of the time they’re found in your local grocery or health food store, and travel well!

4. Yoga Helps Your Immune System!

Stress has a significant, negative effect on immune function. It depletes your body’s valuable resources leaving you vulnerable to illness. The practice of yoga and meditation have been proven to reduce stress, increase the function and efficiency of immune systems, and bring about an overall sense of wellbeing. You don’t even have to be flexible or experienced in yoga to reap the benefits! Anyone, even if you’re in a wheelchair, can do yoga.
